Social media aggregator for events: how a live social wall works and what it costs

A social media aggregator for events pulls posts with your hashtag or from your accounts into one moderated feed and shows it on venue screens or as a widget on the event page. What it can collect depends on platform APIs: Instagram hashtag search only returns posts from the last 24 hours, X charges per post read, and TikTok opens its hashtag API only to approved researchers. That is why most walls now also accept direct uploads through a QR code.

This idea is in my database because of a video titled "I Built 3 SaaS Apps to $200K MRR", where curator.io is described as "a social media aggregator for websites and events". Below I take the event use case apart: what the tools do, where the platform limits are and what you pay. The original idea card with scores and the source stays under the guide.

What is a social media aggregator for events?

It is software that collects posts from several sources (a hashtag on Instagram or X, your brand accounts, uploads from guests) into one feed, lets someone approve or hide posts, and displays the result in two places:

  • on screens at the venue: a full-screen "social wall" that refreshes on its own and scrolls slowly,
  • on the website: an embeddable widget on the event landing page, so the page keeps showing fresh content before, during and after the event.

The vendors in this space sell both from the same feed. Walls.io lists live event screens, website hubs and digital signage as separate uses of one product. Flockler describes the same split: collect, curate, then display on screens and landing pages.

Where do the posts come from, and what do the APIs allow?

The sources decide what your wall can show, so start here.

SourceWhat an app can getLimits that matter at an event
Instagram hashtagPublic photos and videos with the hashtag, through the Instagram API with Facebook LoginOnly media published in the last 24 hours, max 30 unique hashtags per 7 days per account, no username field on results, needs the Instagram Public Content Access feature (app review)
X (Twitter)Recent search by hashtag or keywordPay-per-use: $0.005 per post read, up to 3 million post reads per month before Enterprise
TikTokResearch API supports hashtag queriesOnly for approved academic and non-profit researchers, not for commercial products
Direct upload (QR code)Photos, videos and text from guests through a web formNo platform API involved; you own the moderation and the storage

Two practical consequences:

  1. Instagram content has to be collected live. If the wall is not pulling during the event, yesterday's posts with your hashtag are gone from the hashtag endpoint. Set the wall up and test it before doors open.
  2. Usernames are missing on Instagram hashtag results. If you want to show "@name" next to a photo, plan for it: tagging your account or uploads through a form give you more to work with.

Commercial tools do offer TikTok and LinkedIn sources (Curator's event plan lists one TikTok hashtag source and one LinkedIn company page source). Those come through each vendor's own integrations, so check the exact source types in the plan rather than assuming a hashtag works on every network.

What do social wall tools cost?

Prices below are copied from the vendors' pages on 22 October 2026. They change, so treat them as a starting point.

ToolPricing modelWhat you get at the entry price
EverwallPer event daySelf-service $49 per event day, or a $399 30-day pass. Full moderation +$29/day and branding removal +$49/day on the daily plan (both included in the pass). Up to 10,000 X posts per day. Full-service design: $299 per event day + $2,500 setup
Curator.io (Event plan)Monthly subscription$184-200 per month depending on billing period. 10 sources refreshing every 5 minutes, includes 1 TikTok hashtag, 1 X and 1 LinkedIn company page source
FlocklerMonthly subscriptionBasic $129/month: 8 feeds, manual moderation, custom CSS. AI moderation starts on Business ($229/month). Content API only on Premium
Walls.ioPlans per use case (events, websites, signage)14-day free trial. The pricing page did not show numbers when I checked, so compare on a quote
QR WallMonthly, upload-onlyFree plan shows 5 posts on screen and keeps the first 30. Premium $10.99/month, Professional $19.99/month adds AI moderation, an approval queue and your branding

For a one- or two-day conference, a per-day price is usually easier to justify than a monthly plan you forget to cancel. A wedding or a small company party can often live with a QR upload wall and skip social APIs completely. A venue or a brand that runs a wall all year is the case where monthly plans make sense.

Social wall on screen vs social aggregator widget on the website

The feed is the same, the requirements are not.

  • Screen: big type, slow auto-scroll, no clicks, refresh without reloading. Curator's event product, for example, refreshes in the background every 5 minutes. Check readability from the back of the room and the screen's aspect ratio.
  • Widget: an embed code on the event page. It has to load fast, work on mobile, and not hide the call to action (tickets, agenda). Lazy-load it below the fold. A heavy third-party widget at the top of a landing page can slow the page down more than it helps.

How to set up a social wall for an event

  1. Pick one short hashtag and check it on Instagram and X before you print it. If it is already used for something else, the wall will fill with noise.
  2. Choose the sources from the table above. Add a QR upload option if a big part of your audience will not post publicly.
  3. Decide on moderation: pre-approval (every post waits for a person), filters (block words, hide accounts), or AI moderation with a person checking flagged posts. For a public screen with sponsors in the room, pre-approval is the safe default.
  4. Name the moderator. Someone has to watch the queue during the event, on a laptop or phone, with authority to hide posts.
  5. Test on the real screen a day before: resolution, contrast, refresh, what happens when the venue Wi-Fi drops.
  6. Keep the content afterwards. Export it or keep the feed live on the event page as a recap. Everwall advertises permanent content storage; with any tool, check what happens to the posts when the plan ends, before you cancel.

Moderation: what can go wrong on a live wall

A social wall shows other people's posts to a full room, under your logo. The usual problems are off-topic posts that use a popular hashtag, competitors or spammers jumping on a trending tag, and photos of people who did not agree to be on a big screen. Filters catch words, not images, which is why vendors sell manual queues and AI image moderation as paid add-ons. Flockler, for example, puts AI moderation on its second tier, and QR Wall on its top plan.

Buy a social wall or build your own?

Buy when the event is a one-off, you need several social networks, and a standard layout is fine. A per-day tool will cost less than any custom build.

Building your own starts to make sense when:

  • the wall lives inside your own product (an event app, a venue app, a platform you sell to organizers),
  • most content comes from direct uploads, so you do not depend on platform APIs at all,
  • you need your own moderation rules, for example AI pre-screening of images with a person approving the final queue,
  • you run walls for many clients and per-event fees add up.

The simplest version I would build is upload-first: a QR code opens a web form, the photo goes to storage, a moderation queue (with optional AI pre-screening) approves it, and a full-screen page shows approved posts in real time. Social sources can be added later, one API at a time, with the limits from the table above in mind. My usual stack for a web product like this is Next.js and TypeScript, Supabase for storage, auth and realtime, and the OpenAI or Claude APIs where a model actually helps (for example image pre-screening).

Where I can help

I am Bogumił Łuć, a solo AI product builder from Kraków. I build web and mobile apps, MVPs and AI integrations for clients. If you want an event wall, a UGC moderation tool or a widget that lives in your own product, the process is: a workshop to define scope, a quote, UX that I design myself, then two-week sprints with a clickable version as early as possible. Billing is hourly on a B2B invoice.

See my services, the MVP development page, or AI integration if you want AI moderation inside an existing product.

FAQ

What is the difference between a social wall and a social media aggregator?

The aggregator is the part that collects and moderates posts from many sources into one feed. A social wall is one way to display that feed: full screen, on displays at a venue. The same feed can also be embedded as a widget on a website.

Can a social wall show Instagram posts with my event hashtag?

Yes, for public photos and videos, but the Instagram hashtag endpoint only returns media published in the last 24 hours and an account can query at most 30 unique hashtags in 7 days. Start collecting before the event and keep the wall running during it.

How much does a social wall for one event cost?

On 22 October 2026, Everwall charged $49 per event day for self-service, Curator listed its Event plan at $184-200 per month, and QR Wall had a free upload-only plan with paid plans from $10.99 per month. Moderation and branding removal are often extra.

Can I show TikTok posts on an event wall?

TikTok's Research API, which supports hashtag queries, is only open to approved academic and non-profit researchers. Some commercial wall tools include a TikTok hashtag source through their own integration, so check the plan details of the tool you pick.

Is it worth building a custom social wall?

For a single event, usually not: a per-day tool is cheaper. A custom build makes sense when the wall is part of your own product, most content comes from direct uploads, you need your own moderation rules, or you run walls for many clients.
